Every time I try to print in black and white on my Officejet 4630, it always uses the color cartridge despite clicking “black and white” on the Print dialog box. This happens whether I use both my iPad Pro running iOS 15 or my MacBook Pro running OS 12

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that your printer is using color cartridges even while printing in black and white, I am glad to assist you.
- Though you print in black and white, the printer will use a little bit of ink from color cartridges for best print quality.
- You can print in single-cartridge mode to use only a black cartridge.
- Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP Officejet 4630 series with only one ink cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage.

@Amonty71
If both cartridges are inserted, it will use the color cartridge as well to print in black.
If you want to use the printer in single-cartridge mode, remove the color cartridge from the printer.
