I have an OfficeJet 6500 printer. The HP support web site says that there is a Critical Firmware Update. I clock to download it and all it shows is the Dumb "HP Print and Scan Doctor". It can find the printer. I found the option to update the firmware and it sends me back to the web page I mentioned earlier.
The printer does not have a setup option that I can find to update the firmware.
The only other option is to use the "Smart App". I tried it AND IT IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO FIND THE PRINTER - BUT THE DUMB APP FOUND IT IMMEDIATELY.
How do I update the firmware when the Dumb App sends me to a web page that will not download the firmware, the physical printer does not have an option to download firmware (that I can find) and the Smart App is not smart enough to find the printer.

Hi @javelinmania
Welcome to HP Support Community. This is a great place to post questions and find answers.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you got a message from the HP Support website to update the firmware.
I checked the driver page for this model and there is no firmware update.
You may ignore that message.
You may check the driver page from this link.
I hope this helps
Take care and have a good day.
