Officejet 6600
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

We have an Officejet 6600 which we have had for a few years and has worked fine, we recently replaced our MAC with a new MAC and have installed the 6600 again.  I have installed using drivers available on the internet just by "Adding a printer" on the MAC and following whatever instructions.

Now, when I print, I can find no settings that allow me to change the print options to colour!

Note: it is not that it doesn't print in colour when I ask it to, I have no way to ask it to print in colour.

Do you think I need to update drivers/software and if yes, how would I go about this?

@NW1965, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print in color from your Mac. To assist you better,

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Try making a standalone copy in color from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Check the print settings on the app you are using to print. You may refer to - HP print settings guide

If the issue persists, use the HP Smart app from the App Store and try printing using this app to check if that helps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
