hp officejet 7612
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, both in Control Panel and printui.exe

But to no avail - will not load full driver, so I cannot scan

@pilott59, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to use the full-feature printer driver.

Have you tried using the HP Smart app to scan and check if that helps?

Download the app from Microsoft Store.

for more info on scanning, refer to - How to scan with an HP printer

Perform a clean reinstallation of pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

hi Kumaro307,

Thanks for your reply.

I followed your instructions exactly, and the driver only loaded the Basic Driver.

It also will no longer allows 11x17 or A3 size paper.in the Preferences

@pilott59

That is the only driver available on the HP Support site. Did you try to scan and check if that works using this software?

If this does not help, have you tried using the HP Smart app to print and scan?

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Let me know how it goes.

Some background: I have owned only HP printers all my life - from the awesome Lazerjet II in the 1980's, through to today., when I have the atrocious OfficeJet 7612, and a tolerable officejet 8610. My computers and laptops for the past 20 years have been HP.

In that time, I have seen a once-great company turn into a pathetic shadow of its former self.

The customer support - once the best in the industry - is now laughable. That we have to resort to a forum to get (3rd rate) technical support is nothing short of disgraceful. That an employee can suggest I use an clumsy, badly written app because of a flaw in the printer driver is just sad.

I have solved my wide format printing problems by purchasing a Brother MFC-J6545DW. I recommend others do the same, and send a message to HP by voting with our feet

The Brother printer  is everything the HP 7612 should have been - solid, easy to set up, flawless.

Note: I did look at the HP 7740, while shopping - it is cheaply made & flimsy, and  I fear the HP predilection for for non-intuitive, user-unfriendly bloatware drivers will continue to be infuriating, and an incredible waste of my time.

Goodbye HP
