Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was forced to reinstall Windows 10 64-bit. My Officejet is installed on my LAN. I installed it on my HP desktop, using the latest driver (OJ8600_1315-1.exe, version 1.4.1926.0). Printing works fine. However, when I attempt a fax, it spools for a while, then the status changes from Spooling to Cancelled, with no further explanation. I've run the fax test, and it passes. Any suggestions?

Hi @russd,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues sending fax from your HP OfficeJet Printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Before you begin: Print a fax test report

Run a fax test report to determine the faxing status on the printer and whether or not it is configured correctly to send and receive faxes.

  1. Load U.S. Letter or A4-sized plain white paper into the tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow ().

  3. Touch Setup ().

  4. Touch Tools, and then touch Run Fax Test. The printer displays the status of the test, and then prints a report.

  5. Review the report.

    • If the results of the fax test are All Pass, skip to the solution to configure the fax for sending and receiving..

    • If the fax test indicates that it does not detect a phone line or a dial tone, continue to the next solution to check the fax connections.

Alternatively, you can go through the steps suggested in the support document for - Cannot Send or Receive Faxes

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Jeet, thanks for your suggestions. However, I have already run the fax test and everything passed. I can aslo send and receive faxes from the Officejet. What I cannot do is send from my PC. The Officejet is attached to my LAN. Other PCs on my LAN can send faxes. The problem is only when I try to send from my desktop. I have deleted and reinstalled the printer using OJ8600_1315-1.exe (version 1.4.1926.0), but it doesn't help. Any other suggestions?

Hi @russd,

As I understand you are having issues when sending from your Desktop PC. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

I would suggest a clean install to try and fix this issue. This can be done easily by following the steps listed below:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Restart your computer.

Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-4/OJ8600_1315-1.exe to download and install the printer software.

Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to install the printer drivers using Windows built-in drivers.

Go to this link: HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver and follow from Step 3.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

Jeet, Thanks again. I tries the clean HP install steps, but the problem is still the same. I will try the "Windows built-in drivers" step when I get some time. One question: need I do the HP clean install again before the "Windows built-in drivers" step?

Jeet, after reviewing the link you posted (HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver), I see that this will not solve my problem, because it will only permit me to send a fax if I first print it. I can already send printed pages, so that would not help me. I must be able to send documents from my desktop PC without printing, so it seems I wiil just have to do that from another PC on my LAN.

I wish to note that after I removed all HP Officejet apps, in "Control panel – Devices and printer", there were no Officejet printers. Also, printui showed no Officejet drivers. The other steps you recommended proceeded as expected.

It seems to me that since I can send faxes from other Windows 10 PCs on my LAN, something that Officejet is using is corrupt and was not removed by following the steps you gave. Could it possibly be some registry entries?
