When I turn on the printer I get this message "A problem has occurred with one of the printer's critical system files. A printer update will be installed to fix this problem." The touch screen is not responding because it stalls at this message and nothing else happens. This is preventing my laptop from communicating with the printer and therefore I can't run a troubleshooter. I cannot even get the printer to power down and unplugging it has not helped either. Help!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to reset the Printer here:
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.
Also, try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168
