I replaced toner cartridge with generic and P1006 would not recognize it (error was that toner still needed to be replaced). Returned it and bought HP toner cartridge. Still have the same error message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. I have also updated the driver. How do I fix this?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I understand the HP Printer isn't recognizing the replacement cartridge,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Have you ensure genuine HP Ink cartridges are being used?
Did you check for the packing materials and paper?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Use genuine HP toner cartridges
HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to hp.com/go/anticounterfeit.
Visit HP SureSupply to check ink or toner cartridge compatibility or purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies.
-
Go to HP SureSupply.
-
If necessary, select your country/region.

-
Follow the on-screen instructions to order new supplies or check cartridge compatibility with your printer.
You can also purchase genuine HP cartridges and supplies from other retailers.
If using genuine HP toner supplies did not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Check for packing materials and paper
Check the toner cartridge and printer for any packing materials and paper that might be causing the error message.
NOTE:
The following images might show a different printer than your model, but the steps are the same.
-
Turn off the printer.
-
Disconnect the power cord from the printer.

-
Open the toner cartridge door.

Look for and remove any packing material such as cardboard, tape, or paper debris.

Remove the toner cartridge.

-
Look for and remove any additional packing material or paper debris inside the toner cartridge area.
-
Check for and remove the orange tab on the toner cartridge.

-
Check for and remove the protective sealing tape on the toner cartridge.
To remove the protective sealing tape, pull the tab away from the toner cartridge, and then discard.
CAUTION:
If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash the clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into the fabric.

-
Gently rock the toner cartridge from front to back to make sure the toner is distributed evenly.

-
Insert the toner cartridge into the printer, and then close the toner cartridge door.

-
Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.
If checking for and removing packing materials and paper did not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.

Hi Riddle. Here is more background - we've been using the P1006 for years (awesome printer). We had been user the Office Depot brand of toner cartridge until it ran out a week ago. We got cheap and bought a knock-off brand and the printer would not recognize it. I returned the knock-off and bought a HP toner (not the Office Depot replacement). The printer will not recognize the toner cartidge. The message states "install a new toner cartridge." The cartidge is installed correctly. I have unplugged and replugged the printer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and driver. I have also installed the most recent driver online from HP in case the CD driver was out of date.
I do not know what to do next.
Thank you for your help.
