Powered off HP 4500 printer & HP Win 11 PC.  Powered both on, restarted PC.  Printer still shows "offline".  Downloaded and executed HP diagnostic tool, it reports printer is operational.  Manually executed printer 4500 Printer Status Report & Wireless Network Test Results.  BOTH show no problems.  One document stuck in print queue.  "PRINTER PREFERENCES" does not appear in Win 11 Settings for selected printer.

Hi @ralph-de-ipo

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the situation you are describing. The printer is showing as offline even though the HP diagnostic tool and the printer’s own reports confirm it is operational, and you are not seeing “Printer Preferences” in Windows 11 settings. Let’s go through recommended steps to bring the printer back online and restore access to preferences:

Step 1 – Clear the Print Queue

  • Open Windows Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP 4500 printer → Open queue.
  • Right‑click the stuck document → Cancel.
If the job does not clear, restart the Print Spooler service:
  • Press Windows + R → type services.msc → Enter.
  • Locate “Print Spooler” → Right‑click → Restart.

Step 2 – Verify HP App Connection

  • Launch the HP App.
  • Remove the HP 4500 printer from the app.
  • Add the printer again by selecting “Set up a new printer” and follow the guided steps to reconnect it to the wireless network.

Step 3 – Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Go to “Printer Settings” → “Advanced Settings” → “Diagnose & Fix.”
  • Allow the tool to automatically check and repair communication issues.

Step 4 – Confirm Windows Integration

  • After re‑adding the printer in the HP App, return to Windows Settings → Printers & scanners.
  • Ensure the HP 4500 is listed and set as the default printer.
  • Select “Manage” → “Printing preferences.”
If “Preferences” still does not appear, reinstall the full HP driver package.

Step 5 – Install Full Feature Driver

Step 6 – Test Printing

  • Print a test page from Windows.
  • Print a document from Word or Acrobat to confirm the printer is online and preferences are accessible.

These steps are designed to restore the printer’s online status and ensure the “Printer Preferences” option reappears in Windows.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
