Hi @Pants58,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 4255e printer is not printing from your Windows 7 computer but works fine with your phone and laptop, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Windows 7 computer via USB cable or over the network (if it's a wireless printer).

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting both the printer and the computer can resolve connectivity or communication issues.

Check Printer Status:

  • Open the Control Panel on your Windows 7 computer.
  • Go to "Devices and Printers".
  • Right-click on your HP DeskJet 4255e printer and make sure it's set as the default printer.
  • Check if there are any print jobs stuck in the queue. If so, cancel them.

Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Windows has a built-in printer troubleshooter that can help identify and fix printer-related problems. To access it:
    • Go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting.
    • Under "Hardware and Sound", click on "Use a printer".

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing issues. Make sure your printer drivers are up to date:
    • Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model (HP DeskJet 4255e), and download the latest drivers for Windows 7.
    • Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.

Check Printer Spooler Service:

  • Sometimes the Print Spooler service may be stopped or not running properly. To check and restart it:
    • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Locate "Print Spooler" in the Services list.
    • Right-click on it and select "Restart". If it's not running, right-click and select "Start".

Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily:

  • Antivirus or firewall settings might sometimes block printer communication. Temporarily disable them and check if you can print.

Reinstall Printer:

  • If the above steps don't work, try removing the printer from your computer and reinstalling it:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select "Remove device".
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to reinstall your HP DeskJet 4255e printer.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 7 computer has all the latest updates installed, as these updates often include important fixes and patches.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the printing issue with your HP DeskJet 4255e printer on your Windows 7 computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
