Hi @MIKEJ1952,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If the HP Smart app is only allowing you to print PDF files but not XLS (Excel) files, here are the likely reasons and how to fix it:
Reason for causing the issue:
1. HP Smart App Limitation:
- On mobile (especially ios/Android), HP Smart has limited support for printing Excel files directly unless they are first converted to PDF.
2. File Association/Permissions Issue:
- The app might not have the right permissions or default apps linked to open XLS files.
Steps On Mobile Devices (ios / Android):
- Convert the Excel file to PDF first:
- Open the .XLS file in Excel or Google Sheets and choose Export or Share > PDF.
- Then open that PDF in the HP Smart app to print it.
- Use the Share Option:
- Open the Excel file in the Microsoft Excel app, tap the Share icon, and choose Print > HP Smart.
- Open the Excel file in the Microsoft Excel app, tap the Share icon, and choose Print > HP Smart.
- Print from Excel App Directly:
- If your phone is connected to the printer, use the Excel app’s built-in Print function, which often allows you to select your HP printer directly.
On Windows/Mac:
- If you're using HP Smart on a computer, it usually supports XLS files indirectly by:
- Opening the file in Excel
- Go to File > Print, and select your HP printer
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
