I was running some tests on my MacBook Air 2020 (M1) and noticed that I was getting a lot of dropped packets when pinging things.  I also was getting slightly slower speed tests (240/10 instead of 390/11).    I booted into Safe Mode and this issue went away, so I knew it was something running that was causing the problem.

After quitting a variety of applications, I finally found the problem app is HPPSDrMonitor, which is part of HP Smart (version 12.7.1).   I don't know why this is running all the time in the background, but it is causing network issues.  If I boot up my laptop and stop the process, the packet loss and speed issues go away.  Why is this always running anyway?

Please fix this.

On a side note HP Smart is an Intel only app.  It should be Universal.

I found the log files for PSDrMonitor and they are full of errors going back to the oldest log record on May 25.  It looks like PSDrMonitor is hammering the network looking for the printer, even though HP Smart can see it when I open the app:

Welcome to the HP support community.

HP smart is designed to monitor the printer activity regularly and hence it runs all the time, the only alternative is to install the printer using the AirPrint driver.

Meanwhile:-

Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app. from the Mac store.

Here are the steps:- Click here

Update the Mac OS

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Software Update to check for updates.
  2. If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them. ...
  3. When Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, the installed version of macOS and all of its apps are also up to date.

Let me know how it goes.

I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same results.

As far as I can tell I can print just fine without HP Smart so I left it uninstalled.  I posted this because whatever bug is messing with the network should be fixed.

This might require remote access on your computer to fix the issue.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Let me know how it goes.
