Came to use my printer today to discover that HP decided to update the firmware. This has now resulted in my printer becoming a large paper weight. Only way to resolve as far as I can see is to load new firmware from USB. However after much searching HP has disabled access to its FTP site where the firmware .rfu file is located. Well done HP. Firstly you break my printer and secondly you take away the only means of me repairing it. How do I now obtain the .rfu file to fix this problem?

Hello GazUK1,
Here is the driver to download, uninstall the old driver, via programs and features. In Control Panel, click Devices and Printers, delete your old printer. If it is not there, continue the procedure. Delete, in progamfiles and ProgramX86, all the lines with the name of your printer. Download the new driver. Then install the new full HP driver. Right click on the setup.exe, install as administrator. At the end of the installation, restart the computer.
This should work now. Here is the new driver to download:
Download the driver which is 114.9MB from May 24, 2022.

Hi Bernard, thanks for the suggestion, however the fix can only be performed from the printer itself and not via an PC connection. Further reading shows the problem down to a 'bad' firmware release. Other 477dw users have reported the same in the last few days. The below link shows how to solve. Note that the printer firmware can only be retrieved by renaming the HP firmware .EXE file to .ZIP and then opening this using 7.ZIP. Then copy the file 'maverickdw_dist_pp1_001.2313A_nonassert_appsigned_lbi_rootfs_secure_signed.ful2' to a flash drive. Insert the flash drive to the rear USB port, switch on the printer holding down the power button until a black screen is observed. Tap the screen a few times. A blue menu will appear. Select the option 'Flash Driver'. Full instructions from MathewUK below: -
