My printer self installed a software update yesterday.
Message indicate the update went well....but LCD screen was freezed.
Printer is not detected by computer.
She was connected by wifi, tried by ethernet, no change.
LCD screen is functionnal something like 5 sec after reboot and then freeze.
Tried various HP software solution (print and scan doctor but can't detect the printer, deleting and reinstalling printer on computer....but as it can be detected it doesn't work) but it is still freezed and non functionnal.
Tried to call the support, but after ONE HOUR wait the call was terminated before i could talk to someone.
Any idea ?
It is a great printer and i like it but as it has been discountinued by HP if i cannot make it work again it won't be possible to replace it...

Ethernet switch received and it finally works.
I put only my computer and the printer on the switch to be sure no internet access during the process.
I was falshing from factory but i did not worked, so i give a try to the flash with only the .fu2 file on the usb Key (as describe in previous posts).
I reinstall the software on my computer (the 38.9.1948_1 not the last one).
It worked.
I plug internet on the switch....still work.
Print a page...still works.
For the moment i will stay this way....won't try with the last software nor reinstal other computer. I will wait for an HP answer...

I tried.
I disconnect LAN, reset....and it works for around 5sec the time for it to connect by wifi 😞 (till yesterday when it froze it was wifi connected).
So it means it works until it is connected...may help HP to see where the problem is 🙂

yes, without lan, it's responding, then if you connect it via wifi, it's a same problem
For school and urgency, an trainee need print his activity rapport, it's work via USB
it's a good news, my 2 printers are not HS.
if HP don't anything in few days, i will be reset in factory preset for reward an old firmware

Tried a hard reboot (keep clicking on start button, push Home, back, home, home)...opens a new menu:
reflash.....tried...did nothing
audit...tried...did nothing
menu...reflash....ok....did nothing
It may be possible that the reflash option only work with an usb key with the software on. I will see if i can find something here about how to flash this printer.... (otherwise i will have to buy a new printer, can't stay days without print/scan option :()

Have an identical thread with a possible solution
I had exactly the same issue....printer started up okay when PC wasnt switched on. Touch screen fine. As soon as PC switched on and wifi detected printer bricked
I got a tech genius friend on it for 3 hours and eventually removing the 477dw driver, reinitialising the wifi network via touchscreen then installing the HP Universal Printer Driver pcl6 has sorted the issue. This driver seemed to do the job when all the HP software assistants failed!

Hi All
I have managed to get one of these (477dw) working by doing the following steps
You will need to restart the printer with the usb memory stick with the new firmware in the root directory of this.
1. Download the windows firmware installer from the HP support page.
2. Rename the file form .exe to .zip extension
3. open the file with win-zip or 7-zip to see all the files in the executable (windows wont open it - but 7Zip will)
4. You’ll find the firmware file (.ful2 extension) in the root of the zip file
5. Extract and copy the .ful2 file to the usb drive
6. plug the usb drive into the back usb port on the printer
7. Plug the printer into the power while holding down the printers power button
8. the printer will go black screen. Tap the screen a number of times and you will see a menu come up, one of the options that will be in that menu will be to reflash the device. Select this option and it will read the firmware off the usb... once done it seemed to fix it.
Hope this helps someone else.
