Have an HP8730 printer. On my windows 11 laptop, it shows under devices -> printers that the device is offline (always)
Then under printer properties -> General, it says that the "paper available" is Letter, however this is not true, and on the printer every tray and every setting is set to A4.
Then under printing preferences, the profiles are all set to letter. If I change them one at a time, Genera, Cardstock, Photo, Booklet and so on, and save, and then open again, it's reverted back to Letter.
When actually printing, I have to manually select A4 every time. However then the software warns that this doesn't match the printer. However it does...
How can I make this paper size nightmare go away!! I ONLY ever print on A4, yet I cannot print a single thing because everything on the Windows and HP software insists I live in a world with letter size only....

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that you are getting unable to select the paper size in the settings, I am glad to assist you.
This seems to be a driver issue, follow these steps to fix the issue.
Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.

On my older computers still running windows 10, under printers -> manage -> properties -> general, the paper available is A4.
I can print.
On windows 11 devices, it's reporting Letter, and I cannot print.
Microsoft suggest it's a problem with HP software.
HP support say a problem with Microsoft win11.
So, it seems this will be the second HP printer to go to the great office in the sky from my household this month.

The support site for this model shows it is compatible with the HP Universal Print Driver and I would suggest for windows 11 that installing that would be your best option.

Support have had me installing drivers for other printers, then universal, then for this printer for windows 10, for windows 11, uninstall, re-install.. and it's always the same. It simply doesn't work! The printer settings say it has A4, the 3 computers I have tried to print from since they were upgraded all say it has Letter size paper, and they won't print.
I've got a new printer, a Canon, it's 40 times cheaper per page, and it works.
