HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

I receive "Incorrect paper size" from an Officejet Pro 8025e when printing a single standard size (8.25"x3") check from Quicken. Paper size is set as Letter on the 8025e. This error occurs on both WiFi and USB communications.

I use Quicken Classic Premier, Version R54.16, Build 27.1.54.16.

This error did not occur when using an Officejet Pro 8025, which failed last month and was replaced with the 8025e.

Thank you for any suggestions, Hank

Welcome to the HP Community --

OK - perhaps relevant >> "any suggestions"...

If you are printing on 3x8.25 inch paper,

and

If you are using Windows,

and

If the Full Feature Software (full driver) has been installed for the printer,

Reference - Download / Save / Instal / Restart computerl:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 All-in-One EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

then

The printer and the print software settings must be adjusted to print a Custom Paper Size.

Notes

  • If the paper is not "Custom Size", skip the Custom Paper Size From information.
  • The printer must still be made aware of the paper size and type (EWS - Tray and Paper).

Tray and Paper

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before the content is opened for print.

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.

Custom size?

If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”,

If the printer includes a touchscreen display printer control panel,

Look for the setting for “Custom” in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used

NOTE:  Not available for all printers

Hi Dragon-Fur, thank you for your response. I will follow your suggestions tomorrow when I have more time.

I will let you know of my progress/success.

Hi Dragon-Fur, thank you for your reply.

I followed your instructions as far as the various systems would allow. Windows 11 > Settings > etc. accepted a custom paper size as you described. However, the printer accessed via its URL did not allow entering a custom paper size. Nor does it allow this locally on its touch screen. I do not see any way to transfer the custom size defined within Windows to the printer, including allowing Windows to control the printer rather than the HP print software.

The printer is an Officejet Pro 8025e. Though it is registered within Win11 Settings Printers as an HP 7B5A69 (HP Officejet Pro 8020 Series). Its firmware is MALBECPP1N004.2242A.00, build date 22-10-12.

The driver is HP Officejet Pro 8020 Series PCL-3. I’m not familiar with Printer Control Language. I don't remember PCL being used with the 8025 drivers, though it may have been.  This could be where the capability of transferring Quicken defined paper sizes to the 8025e was eliminated.

If you are able, I suggest that you recommend to the Officejet Pro Design Department reinstalling the paper size transfer capability in the next 8025e firmware and driver updates.

Again, thank you for your help, Hank.

Unfortunately, it is true that the OfficeJet Pro 8000 series are not on par with the 9000 models in terms of features and options.  The latest OfficeJet Pro 9120e / 9130e series printers are even more distant from the 8025e printers.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e was released in the Fall of 2020 -- other than security updates, this discontinued model series is no longer in production and won't be upgraded.

It is also true that the lack of a specific setting for Custom size in the EWS or on the printer control panel might not be the source of the mis-match or at least not the only way to solve the issue.

Selecting the source / tray along with having selected the paper size / type might be enough.

The following is meant as FYI only -- I do not have access to your printer model and I do not use Quicken.

Discussion (Read or ignore as suits your situation)

If I recall correctly, a full sheet of checks (Letter size paper) includes three checks per sheet.

I would guess that full sheets of checks still print (using Quicken).\

Printing sheets of checks might be in some ways similar to printing a sheet of labels.  This is certainly not what you are asking but might suffice if you are in need of the result without regard to how you get there:  Print a sheet of checks, perhaps with only one of those checks including the unique payment information.

What else?

Try using another (different software) --

IF, for example, you can input the information for the check onto the check form before that completed form is printed, then perhaps you could create the check as a file, Export to PDF, and print using Adobe Reader.

How?  Not sure -- best use blank pieces of paper the size of your check to experiment.

Adobe Reader is eminently suited to PDF printing of many types.

NOTE

When called from within printing programs / software / applications, Printing Preferences might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" / “More Settings” / “Properties” / "Printer Setup" / "Presets" or similar.

You are welcome.

No one likes "no" as an answer.

In general, accepting "no" as a solution is not popular.

We get it - no worries.

I will resist offering other solutions -- the model disparity is not something I can address.

There is always the chance that a Quicken user that also has your printer model will have an answer that better suits your situation.

True - there is no actual way to know what will work unless you can converse with someone who has been able to print individual Quicken checks on a printer that you can purchase for your own.

Perhaps try checking at Quicken forum / community (if there is such).

Good Luck.
