Hi @Varad23 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to reset the password for your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw Printer, follow these steps:
Option 1: Reset Password Through Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If you can still access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
Connect the printer to your network (via Ethernet or Wi-Fi).
Find the printer's IP address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
- Look for the IP address under IPv4 or Wireless.
Open a web browser on your computer and type the IP address in the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).
Log in to the EWS. The default credentials are:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin (or blank for older models).
If you cannot log in, you must reset the printer.
Option 2: Factory Reset to Remove Password
A factory reset will restore the printer to default settings, including clearing the password. Here's how to perform a reset:
Turn Off the Printer:
- Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Enter Service Mode:
- While the printer is off, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together.
- Keep holding the buttons and turn the printer on.
Release Buttons:
- Release the buttons once the printer begins to boot or shows activity on the display.
Factory Reset:
- Navigate to the menu using the control panel to locate the Restore Factory Defaults option under the Setup or System menu.
- Confirm the reset.
Reconfigure Printer:
- After the reset, reconfigure the printer's network and password.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
