I am in the IT department at a small company and we issue printers to employees who work from home.  Our company has made the decision that we do NOT activate the optional HP+ on our inkjets - we reserve the right to re-issue them to other employees without dealing with transferring between HP accounts and to use them without internet connectivity via USB.  We prefer HP original ink but also want our options open for refills when supply chain issues arise with HP or if we keep the printers longer than HP keeps the ink.

 

So, our company has never accepted the terms of HP+ but has a situation where we are likely returning a new printer because the employee didn't listen to IT and "agreed" (despite not having the authority to do so legally) to the terms of HP+.  What can we do in the future to prevent the user we're issuing a company-owned printer to from permanently activating HP+?  And is there any hope that if we call support and wait on hold, they can deactivate it in this scenario where it was activated without consent of the actual owner (company)?

Employee Behavior

 

Can you prevent your employees from accepting contracts for which they do not have  your approval?

Unknown.

If the employee has the access to accept a purchase, a contract, or a subscription, then perhaps you will have to handle such behavior in-house, that is, generate and enforce policies that discourage people from doing what they want.

 

Refilled Ink

This printer and others in this class are secured against using Non-HP chipped ink cartridges.

Consider this policy when purchasing HP products.

Dynamic Security is not related to HP+.

Just reset the printer to factory default and reinstall without hp smart.

Best option is to purchase products that do not offer HP + at all.

A cautionary Tale and Personal Opinion for those reading:

 

If you have enabled HP+ and the contract is active, resetting the printer does not impact or change the status of the contract.

 

Be wary of enabling HP+ service and then trying to get out of the contract by resetting the printer.

 

HP+ is a contract service -- it is not a setting you can erase from the printer hardware.

 

Once activated, the contract is controlled by HP.

 

Printer Reset(s) and software / application(s) you install do not impact HP+ contract status.

 

If HP+ has been activated / enabled  and the contract is active, Contact HP+ Support for help.

Know your product / purchase - HP+ is optional on InkJet products, the service is embedded in some models.

I don't know about an hp+ contract, I just know that before resetting my printer it wouldn't let me use non hp ink for no money in the world and once I reset the printer and reinstalled in my computer without hp+ it's working great with the non hp ink!!!!!!!!!
