Hi @JTK21,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "0x6100004a" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 usually indicates a problem with the printer’s internal hardware, often related to the printhead or cartridge movement. You can try the following steps to resolve it.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error still appears.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or debris in the paper path, around the printhead, or inside the printer.
  • If you find any paper stuck, carefully remove it.

Check the Printhead and Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and the printhead (if possible), and then check for any obstructions or ink build-up.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges firmly.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer by turning it off, unplugging it for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Run HP’s Diagnostic Tools:

  • If the error persists, use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to check for any issues with the printer’s software or hardware.

Firmware Update:

  • Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the HP website and update it if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
