Print in color is set in print dialog, yet prints come out B&W

Try these steps:

Ensure Cartridge Levels:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your iOS device.
  • Select your HP Tango printer.
  • Check the estimated ink levels. If any cartridges are low, consider replacing them with genuine HP cartridges.

Check Printer Settings:

  • In the print dialog, double-check that "Color" is selected for printing.
  • Ensure that the printer is not set to print in grayscale.

Cleaning and Alignment:

  • Use the HP Smart app to clean the printheads and align the ink cartridges. This can resolve issues related to print quality and color.
  • Follow the in-app instructions within the HP Smart app for these maintenance options.

Print Quality Diagnostic Report

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Use the HP Smart app to check for updates in the printer settings.

Try a Different Printing App:

  • If you are using AirPrint directly from another application (like Photos or Safari) and it defaults to black-and-white:
  • Try printing from the HP Smart app to see if the issue persists.

Reinstall Printer on iOS:

  • Remove your printer from the iOS device list and add it again; this can sometimes resolve printing glitches.
  • Go to the iOS settings, remove the printer, and then reinstall it through the HP Smart app.

Check Printer Configuration:

  • Ensure that your printer is configured correctly in the HP Smart app.
  • Verify that all updates are installed and settings are correct for color printing.
