Let me start by saying that I have printed booklets like what I am currently trying to do, WITH this printer. It has just been awhile, and I do not remember how I did it. I think I had to look up how to do this then too. It may have been using a different computer than the one I am using now. Not sure.

This is a bit confusing, so I'm explaining this more than one way to make it clear what I am trying to do.... There are 2 different things I am trying to do at the same time.

I am trying to print a pdf document of 34 pages as a 2 Sided booklet, with 2 Pages on each end of each side, to be folded in the center and in the correct order they need to be. The ending print job would probably be 9 pages by printing it this way

Each individual piece of paper would end up having 2 pages printed on each side, which would make a total of 4 pages on one sheet of paper.

When this printer printed the documents I previously did, it did them automatically, pulling each page back into the printer to print the other side.

I am trying to explain this as best as I can, confusing as it is. I am giving it another shot below, try to follow me if you can....

The ending result should end up with the first page having the back printed on the left, and the front cover page printed on the right, of one side.  Now, same piece of paper, but other side, would have Page 1 printed on the left, and next to the last page printed on the right. This way when all the pages are picked up out of the tray, and folded in half, I can use a booklet stapler which I have to put 3 staples down the center between the printed pages on each side of the paper, and fold them all together down the center. (Landscape Style, each side readable as individual pages when folded) Also there is only one fold.

The following generally works - the mystery printer must be capable of handling duplex printing.

If not already done:

  • Install the Full Feature Software for the printer
  • Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)
    • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
    • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

Open the file in  Adobe Reader DC

Set the Paper size, media type (kind of paper) in Properties.

Pages to Print = All

Under Page Sizing & Handling

Select Booklet

Booklet subset = both sides

Under Orientation

Portrait and check "Auto-rotate pages within each sheet"

Example

Booklet_Print_8740_PDF_2Booklet_Print_8740_PDF_2

Thank you very much! That worked like a charm! That gave me all the selections I needed to get the job printed. I don't do these booklets very often, but I have already saved your solution as a pdf file for future reference, as well as the email I received. Hopefully the next time I need to do this, I will be able to find them! LOL 🙂
