photosmart plus all-in-one B210
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After Windows installed the Creators Fall Update, I have not been able to print from any program, including Word Pad, Notepad, My Word processing program, LibreOffice, or any photo editing program. The printing feature doesn't list the HP Photosmart B210a as a printer to use. They only list 'Print To File'.

My printer shows that it is connected through the WiFi network. And all this worked BEFORE the Creators Fall Update.

I have uninstalled drivers and tried to install new drivers from the HP Driver Support pages. The Drivers (full or basic). The thing is when I download the Full Drivers, it installed as the BASIC driver.. until I uninstall everything by following instructions in another post to uninstall all drivers........

Now, no drivers install.. the wizard recognizes my printer yet stops at the point of actually installing the driver that says:

Operation could not compelete.

Other installation proceedures have given various errors such as:

Error5: Printer Port failed to add port monitor.

And Windows Error 0x00000709  and 0x00000002

Windows can't open Add Printer, Access is denied.

I was able to install Scan. It's a seperate app from Microsoft Apps. When I click on the Icon I can Scan from my computer and use the scanner on my HP Printer. Go figure.. I can also scan from HP Smart, but I can't print.

Why can't I install drivers so that my programs will recognize my printer to print a document? I need to print documents. I have no other printer. This one worked under Windows 10 Pro untill the Creators Fall Update installed.

The drivers for my printer at HP need to be updated for Windows 10 and what ever security features they updated.

I realize it's an old printer, but it has worked for all these years just fine until the Windows 10 CFU.

Well, I finally got my printer to work.  It would always be "connected" but I couldn't install the Full Driver. It would stop with errors.

Yesterday I formated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 10 Pro and after getting it all updated, Windows auto updates installed a HP program, but I installed the Full Driver as far as it would go and Now my Printer Prints from My Word processing program and email and I can print from web pages!

I'm sorry it's so drastic, but the Windows 10 Creative Fall Update messed everything up, so that I had to reinstall everything from scratch.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Photosmart B210 Printer. I understand that you are getting issue with driver installation and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Uninstall the printer software and install the printer with windows built in drivers.

Watch this YouTube video to uninstall the printer software.

You can also refer this document for more steps.

HI,
I can't uninstall HP drivers, because I uninstalled them before and now I can't install them to uninstall them. I followed instructions on how to delete them completely and there's no HP printer driver on my computer or any printer driver for that matter.

When I use the Add Printer in Devices, the HP Printer is there and says "Driver is unavailable".

When I click on it and open printer app, it opens HP Smart. I click Print, Install to Print pops up with a 4 step dialog to install the drivers. I click Add Printer and it refreshes and says the printer that I want isn't listed. I click that and then there's an error message that says, Windows Can't open Add Printer. Access Is Denied.

I tried HP Printer Install Wizard.. actually it starts by itself.. and it retrieves everything from the internet, and it goes through everything except installing the drivers. It stops at
Install Failed- The software required for your printer could not be installed. Error 5: Failed to add port monitor HP Discovery Port Monitor(HP Photosmart Plus B210 series).

I then download the solution: HP Installation Failure-Port Monitor Failure document... and everything goes fine untill it's time to install the drivers.. and goes through the same thing again. I've done this at least 3 times.

I have used the Install Wizard, the Print and Scan Doctor, and turned off the firewall and Antivirus program and tried everything again.

The drivers download, but do not install. I can't even find the Windows Built-in drivers anymore.. they must have gotten deleted with deletion of all printer drivers.

I will keep trying and fiddling... when I try to install drivers from the device window (control panel), it tells me Windows encountered a problem installing the drivers for your device. Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them...HP Photosmart Plus B210 series Class Criver; Access is denied.

The printer is found on the network, it's connected and ready. Like I said, I can scan from my computer in HP Smart, but I can't print from anywhere, because it wants drivers.

I did a check disk + fix files .. and windows 10 says everything is ok.

Hi @WilsonE,

It looks like you were interacting with @santosh Kumar.G

but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

I'm the Raj1988 & I'm at your service.

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

Let’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61848/t2-149283-2/HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M477-PCL-6_Print_D... and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

If the information I've provided was helpful.

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck!

Hi Raj1788,

I clicked on the link to download the driver, but this is what I got:

  Not Found

The requested URL /pub/softlib/software13/COL61848/t2-149283-2/HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M477-PCL-6_Print_Driver_16124.exe was not found on this server.

I tried the link two different browsers. My printer is the Photosmart e-plus all-in-one B210 .

I already replied to your reply a few days ago, but I couldn't find my reply. Did you delete it? ................this is what I wrote.

Evidently, you aren't reading what I type.  I found two security and update bulletins about my printer and WiFi explicitly. It's about a new vulnerability in WAP encryption.  You should read it. You can find it here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-plus-e-all-in-one-printer-series-b210/4021933/mod...

What I need to do is update the firmware in my router... I have all the updates from Microsoft. Then try and find an update for my BIOS- Intel IME .

I checked the updates for my Printer and there are no new firmware or Drivers updates.  Nothing. The latest updated driver is e-print with a date of September 2017.  In the meantime, I'm waiting.... unless you have another suggestion.

So...  you need to change your instructions to these people that simply can't install the old drivers. Once they uninstall the drivers for their printer, they're out of luck! The drivers don't reinstall!

I have followed these instructions to the letter.  When I get to the URL to click and instal it is a 404 error page and I get nothing.  This printer is a year old and I have now spent six hours trying to get it to work.  The last time from HP it installed, came up Direct FE and NO DRIVER AVAILABLE.  I found this and thought it would work.  This is extremely frustrating when you need to print and the printer won't work all of a sudden.  So I have done every step here and the install page doesn't come up.  What now?  Please help.

After seven hours of trying everything everyone suggested I did the uninstall according to the tech on the forum but couldn't install.  Followed all the instructions to start services and then signed into HP and let it find my printer and clicked to install from there instead of trying all the other ways and it worked.
