Hello again, and thank you for all your help.

My gdedit doesn't look like that -- it is very abbreviated.  Maybe because I downloaded a version from the first place I came to on the internet.  I'm trying to figure out now how to send you a picture of what I'm seeing -- thank you for sending that one, it's very helpful.

Here's what I have.  Thanks!

Um, I meant gpedit.  Freudian slip, I guess.  Thanks.

Hello, @alemmon

It looks like an issue with the operating system 😞

Since you have already performed the steps to disable the kernel-mode printing, restart the PC and try to install the drivers.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest you back up your files and then to perform a system recovery on your PC. This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software. All you save files will be lost and your computer will be formatted to the day you purchased the machine.

Go to HP PCs - Computer does not boot or start and follow the steps under “Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly”. Or you can use a recovery CD to reinstall the operating system.

Hope that helps! Let me know!

Good luck 🙂

That did it, finally.  I had to go through all those steps in order to reconcile myself to restoring the laptop to factory settings.  Thank you for helping me through this!
