Hello there! I apologize in advance if this question is already asked, I tried googling for hours and asked the question in micrososft support but I still haven't gotten a solution to my problem
so my workplace PC network isnt connected to internet, and as you can see when I plug the printer to the PC, the windows doesnt recognize it as printer that I previously installed manually, but it read as another device that wants me to install it via windows update, when I tried to remove the original printer and reinstalled it, as you can see in the picture, the problem still persists
so far I already tried pause the windows update and disable it from service, then disable and uninstalled the USB device that appears whenever I plugged the printer that asks for windows update (yes the printer reads as USB with error message in picture 2 instead of printer) but whenever I replugged it, the USB device will appear it again even if I uninstall the driver ( i also tried to delete the driver file in system32 but still same)
I know connecting it to windows update will most likely solves everything and saves me the headaches but unfortunately the PC is offline so Im out of ideas to fix this,
thanks before and sorry for my bad english

@al408, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP P1102!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It looks like the HP LaserJet P1102 is showing up as an unspecified USB device instead of a printer because the driver installation is incomplete, and Windows is trying to pull the driver from Windows Update, which isn't possible since the PC is offline.
Download the drivers manually:
- On a separate PC with internet access, go to the official HP website.
- Search for the HP LaserJet Professional P1102 drivers.
- Download the full driver package (not just the basic one) to a USB drive.
Install the driver manually:
- Copy the downloaded driver to the offline PC.
- Run the installer directly.
- During installation, select “Use an existing port” and pick the correct USB port.
Manually update the driver: If the above step doesn’t work:
- Open Device Manager.
- Find the USB device with the error.
- Right-click → Update driver.
- Select “Browse my computer for drivers” → Point to the folder where you saved the driver files.
Enable the USB device:
- In the second image, the USB Mass Storage Device is shown as disabled (Code 22).
- Click “Enable Device” to allow Windows to recognize the connection properly.
Restart the PC after installation.
This should allow Windows to recognize the printer as a printer rather than a USB device. Let me know if you need more help!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello ! I apologize for the long response, I really appreciate the response though!
Unfortunately, your solutions dont work 😞
I tried reinstalling windows 10, then installed the driver with CD-ROM that I got when we bought the printer, and I also tried with driver from HP Support official webpage, but the result is same, as you can see in the picture 2, the installation progress stuck at there. the windows doesnt even recognize the connected USB cable, I also tried changing with other printer cables but still same result
In your second step of your suggested solution 'During installation, select “Use an existing port” and pick the correct USB port.' I didnt get that option during driver installation even with advanced setup whether its from CD-ROM and from HP Support website
Then in your third step of your suggested solution 'Select “Browse my computer for drivers” → Point to the folder where you saved the driver files.' this also dont work :(, the windows says the driver is already installed (as USB mass storage device) even when i browsed the installation from the driver folder

@al408, No worries at all! I really appreciate your patience and the detailed troubleshooting you've already done. Let's see if we can get your HP LaserJet P1102 working without relying on Windows Update.
Let's try these steps one by one:
Uninstall the Incorrect USB Driver Completely
Since your PC is detecting the printer as a USB Mass Storage Device instead of an actual printer, we need to remove that incorrect association first.
Open Device Manager (Press Win + X → Select Device Manager).
Find the USB Mass Storage Device that appears when you plug in the printer.
Right-click it and choose Uninstall Device.
Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device (if available).
Disconnect the printer and restart your PC.
Manually Install the Correct HP Driver
Since Windows Update is not an option, we’ll manually install the correct driver.
Download the HP LaserJet P1102 Full Driver Package from the HP Support Website using another PC.
Transfer the file to your offline PC via USB drive.
Run the installer as Administrator (Right-click → Run as administrator).
When prompted, DO NOT plug in the printer yet.
Select "USB connection" and follow the on-screen instructions.
I hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
