I have replaced the ink cartridges in my HP Envy 5010 and it has now come up with an error message of OXC4EB8004.

I have followed some guidance that says it could be a paper jam or something stopping the print head from moving but when I unplug it etc and plug it back in the printer bots up but goes straight to the same error message. I cannot move the print head manually and I cannot take the cartridges out and reinstall them as it is stuck to the right under the plastic bulkead that goes over the print head when it is at rest.

Hi @Mike82101

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since the printer immediately returns the 0xC4EB8004 error after startup and the carriage is locked on the right side, the issue is more likely related to the carriage or printhead initialization process rather than the ink cartridges themselves.

Please try the following:

  1. Leave the printer powered on and disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet as well.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. While the printer is unplugged, check the paper path from the input tray, rear access area, and output area for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects that may be restricting movement.
  5. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and then to the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on and listen carefully during startup for any grinding, clicking, or repeated movement sounds.

If the carriage remains locked under the service station cover on the right side and never moves to the cartridge access position, gently inspect the visible area around the carriage path with the printer powered off to ensure there is no packing material, label, or obstruction preventing movement.

Because the error appeared immediately after cartridge replacement, also confirm that:

  • The cartridges installed are compatible with the HP ENVY 5010.
  • Any protective tape or orange pull tabs were completely removed before installation.
  • Both cartridges are fully seated in their slots.

If the carriage never releases and the printer cannot reach the cartridge access position after the power reset, the printer is not completing its startup sequence, which points to a carriage or service station mechanism issue rather than a cartridge seating issue.

Could you let us know whether you hear any movement or mechanical noise during startup before the error appears, or does the error display immediately after power-on? This detail will help us identify the next troubleshooting step.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
