Microsoft Windows 11

Printer Health Monitor, which was installed during HP Smart app installation,  keeps waking up my laptop, even after disabling the task in Task Manager. It keeps returning no matter what I do to the task. This issue causes my laptop to randomly wake up while in my bag and overheat the whole device (Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio) to the point it caused damage to my computer, as well as losing my work because of the battery running out. My laptop overheated to the point that it damaged the bearings of the fans, which caused them to start vibrating. Even though this is a known issue for more than a year now, which is evident from multiple threads going back(such as: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-i-stop-nt-taskhphp-print-scan-doctorpri...), HP clearly does not care enough about their customers' devices, to the point they are not willing to resolve a stupid programming problem, which should not exist in the first place. Never thought I would pay for a product that would end up damaging other devices that I own, because a multi-billion-dollar company would be so useless in fixing a known, simple programming problem. Never buying an HP product again.

Hi @MatejT

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand your frustration—this issue shouldn’t be happening, especially when it’s causing actual hardware damage.

You’ve already put in a lot of effort trying to disable the Printer Health Monitor, and it’s unacceptable that it keeps re-enabling itself.

Here are some steps that might help permanently disable the task:

1. Disable Wake Timers in Windows

  • Open Control PanelPower Options.
  • Click Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
  • Select Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand SleepAllow wake timers.
  • Set both On battery and Plugged in to Disable.
  • Click Apply and restart your laptop.

2. Remove the Scheduled Task

  • Open Task Scheduler (Win + S, search for it).
  • Navigate to Task Scheduler LibraryHPHP Print Scan Doctor.
  • Right-click Printer Health Monitor and select Disable.
  • If it keeps re-enabling, try deleting the task instead.

3. Uninstall HP Smart & HP Print Scan Doctor

  • Open SettingsAppsInstalled Apps.
  • Find HP Smart and HP Print Scan Doctor, then Uninstall both.
  • Restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.

4. Block HP Services from Running

  • Open Services (Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter).
  • Look for HP-related services (e.g., HP Print Scan Doctor Service).
  • Right-click each one, select Properties, and set Startup type to Disabled.
