Printer Name: HP5896AE.hsd1.pa.comcast.net (HP Officejet Pro 8020 series)

Why does it have the link to hsd1.pa.comcast.net? We had previously lived in PA and had comcast, but now are in NC.

Can the link be removed?

Hi @DJSJM,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

That long, technical-looking name is a "Host Name" that was assigned to your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 by your old Comcast router in Pennsylvania. Even though you have moved to North Carolina, the printer has stored that old network identity in its internal memory, and it is now broadcasting that outdated "comcast.net" address to your new devices.

  1. Access the printer's internal settings page.
    • Print a Network Configuration Page by swiping down on the printer's touchscreen and selecting the Setup (gear) icon, then Reports.
    • Locate the IP Address (e.g., 192.168.1.50) on the printed report.
    • Open a web browser on your computer or phone and type that IP Address into the address bar to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  2. Change the Network Host Name manually.
    • Click on the Network tab at the top of the EWS page.
    • Select General or Network Settings from the left-hand menu, then look for the Host Name field.
    • Delete the old "HP5896AE.hsd1.pa.comcast.net" text and type in a simple, fresh name like HP-OfficeJet-8020, then click Apply.
  3. Refresh the connection on your Windows or Mac devices.
    • Go to your computer's Printers & Scanners settings menu.
    • Remove the printer entry that still shows the old Comcast address by clicking Remove Device.
    • Click Add Printer to rediscover the unit under its new, clean name so that the old Pennsylvania network link is permanently gone.

For more details on managing printer identities, see the official HP printer setup (Embedded Web Server) guide.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
