I purchased hp deskjet 4175e from Facebook marketplace. I have spoken with the seller several times trying to resolve issue. It will not let me add printer to my account. It keeps saying printer is already registered to an account. The seller has sent several pictures showing that he deleted printer from his account. So this is very frustrating! What else can I do? Please help! Thank you!

@LaShay2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer setup!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When a printer shows as already registered, it usually means it's still linked to the previous owner's HP account through HP+ or HP Smart. Even if the seller believes it's been removed, sometimes the printer still holds onto that info.

Here’s what I’d recommend to fully reset and get things working on your end:

Factory Reset the Printer

Let’s start fresh by restoring the printer to its default settings. For the HP DeskJet 4175e, here’s how:

On the printer, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless 📶 buttons together for about 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.

This should trigger a reset and clear old settings.

Note: This doesn’t affect the printheads or ink levels—it just resets network and account connections.

Set Up the Printer via HP Smart

Once it’s reset:

Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.

Sign in with your HP account (or create one if needed).

Click “Add Printer”, and follow the on-screen steps.

If the reset worked, it should allow you to claim and register the printer to your account.

Update Firmware (if needed)

After setup, make sure the printer firmware is up to date:

In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.

This ensures everything runs smoothly and helps avoid any bugs.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
