HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw Printer

Good day - I just installed a new router and need to set up this printer on the new network. To do that it takes me to a "Printer User" screen (cannot bypass) and asks either for Printer User or Device Admin log in information. I never set this up, or if I did I forgot. How do I either set this up, or create a user name and poassword on this printer? Thank you.

Hi @tribbey ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To set up your printer on a new network and address the "Printer User" or "Device Admin" login requirements, follow these general steps:

  1. Reset the Printer's Network Settings:

    • Most HP printers have a method to reset their network settings to the default configuration. This often involves navigating through the printer's control panel. For specific instructions, you might want to consult your printer's user manual or HP's online support resources.
  2. Restore Printer to Default Settings:

    • If you're unable to log in and need to set it up as a new device, a factory reset may help. Again, this is typically done through the printer's menu system. Ensure you check the user guide for your specific printer model for the exact steps.
  3. Connect the Printer to the New Network:

    • Use the printer's control panel to find and join your new Wi-Fi network. This usually involves entering the new network's SSID (network name) and password.
  4. Create or Reset Admin Credentials:

    • If your printer requires login details and you've never set them up, the default credentials might still be in place. These are often found in the printer manual or on HP's support website.
    • If you have previously set up credentials and forgotten them, performing a factory reset on the printer is usually the best way to clear those settings. Then you can establish new credentials and configure the network settings right after.
  5. HP Smart App or HP Software:

    • HP offers tools like the HP Smart App which can assist with network configuration and resetting some settings.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
