Error message says:  The printhead appears to be missing, not installed, or incorrectly installed.  Printer was working fine until this message appeared.  Three new HP color cartridges were installed a couple of weeks ago.  Tools: Clean or align print heads results are the same.  First time I have had a problem since purchase.

Hi @Grammy73,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "printhead not detected or missing" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8625 can be caused by several issues, such as improper installation, printhead failure, or a firmware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off your printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  • Check if the error persists.

2. Check the Printhead Installation

  • Open the printer's access door to access the printhead and cartridges.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
  • Carefully lift the latch to remove the printhead.
  • Reinsert the printhead, ensuring it is seated correctly and securely.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges and close the printer's access door.

3. Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the printhead and gently clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Clean the contacts inside the printer where the printhead sits.
  • Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the printhead and ink cartridges.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware update, which can fix many known issues.
  • You can check for firmware updates by visiting the HP Support website and entering your printer model.

5. Reset the Printer

  • If the error persists, try resetting the printer to factory settings. This can often resolve firmware-related issues.

6. Replace the Printhead

  • If none of the above steps work, the printhead may be faulty and need to be replaced. You can purchase a replacement printhead from HP or an authorized dealer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
