A LaserJet Pro 3002dwe was connected to my old HP account that is now deleted. I tried factory resetting the printer and it is now in my new account, but I cannot connect to it with my Mac, or edit it in the dashboard. It was correctly set up per guide.

I tried literally everything, but the thing wont connect and HP support was literally no help. Even though i opened a case with details i get an email that no action was taken and therefore the case is closing. I TRIED TO CONTACT HP SUPPORT, BUT CANNOT DO ANYTHING BUT OPEN A CASE. Someone said that the printer may still be connected to the old account, to which i no longer have any access …

The Error message i get in setup is that eaasy start is unable to check firmware, but i cannot manually update it, since EWS is unaccesible until the setup is complete ...

Really dissapointed about this, I am a loyal HP customer for 20+ years now …

Hi @tomsky1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how disappointing it feels to have your LaserJet Pro 3002dwe stuck in setup, especially after you’ve already tried factory reset, account changes, and Easy Start.

You’ve clearly put in a lot of effort, so let’s focus on the areas that can break this loop and get the printer connected properly.

Key points about your situation

  • The printer was previously tied to an old account, and after reset it’s now showing in your new account.
  • Easy Start is failing at the firmware check, and Embedded Web Server (EWS) is inaccessible until setup completes.
  • The Mac cannot connect to the printer, and dashboard editing is blocked.

Steps to try

1. Direct USB setup first

  • Connect the printer to your Mac using a USB cable.
  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Add the printer manually via USB.
  • Once added, attempt to print a test page.
  • This bypasses the network setup temporarily and allows firmware communication.

2. Update firmware manually via USB

  • Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP LaserJet Pro 3002dwe Drivers and Software
  • Download the latest firmware update package for macOS.
  • Run the update while the printer is connected via USB.
  • Restart the printer after update completes.

3. Reconfigure wireless connection

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi‑Fi network.
  • Once connected, print a Network Configuration Page to confirm the IP address.
  • On your Mac, add the printer again using IP address in Printers & Scanners.

4. Access EWS after IP assignment

  • Open a browser and type the printer’s IP address.
  • This should now allow access to the Embedded Web Server.
  • From EWS, confirm firmware version and network settings.

5. Add printer to HP App

  • Install the HP App from the Mac App Store.
  • Sign in with your new account and add the printer using its IP or Wi‑Fi connection.
  • Test printing from the HP App to confirm connectivity.

The most effective immediate actions are to connect via USB, manually update firmware, then reconfigure wireless and add the printer by IP address. This sequence usually clears the setup block and restores EWS access.
