I bought a new computer, upgraded HP Smart, and was able to connect the HP Envy Photo 7855 via WiFi, all working normally. I purchased a Canon G6020 and temporarily disconnected HP 7855. I added the HP back in, not as the default printer. Upon startup, the printer connected to my home network, but I was not able to find the printer either in HP Smart or in Systems>Printers. I went through a few steps and was able to connect by entering the HP printer's IP address (with WiFi Direct Connect and Bluetooth ON). The printer appears on the drop down list not by name but by IP address (I'm fine with this). However, I opened one simple document in Word for Mac and a different text file in Textedit. In both cases, it did not print the document but instead printed, the page below (converted to a jpeg in order to post), followed by several blank pages, which I interrupted after 4 pages. The HP does better with borderless printing, so I'd like to get it to work.

Hi @cglenn7777,
Thank you for the response.
Manually Download & Install HP Drivers (Alternative Method)
Since HP's website doesn’t recognize the printer's serial/model number:
Try using a different region on HP’s support page (like US, UK, or India)
Manually search for "HP Envy Photo 7800 series" drivers instead of the specific 7855 model
Check Apple’s AirPrint driver support page for built-in MacOS compatibility
Change Default Print Driver to HP Smart Driver
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
Select the HP Envy 7855
Ensure it is set to HP Smart Driver instead of AirPrint
If it’s stuck on AirPrint, remove the printer and re-add it while selecting HP Smart
Try Adding the Printer Using Bonjour Instead of IP
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
Click Add Printer (+)
Look under the Bonjour or Nearby Printers list (instead of using the IP method)
Disable Wi-Fi Direct on Printer & Reconnect
Go to Printer’s Control Panel
Navigate to Wireless Settings > Wi-Fi Direct
Turn OFF Wi-Fi Direct
Restart both the printer & Mac
Try re-adding the printer
Test a Different Document Format
Try printing a PDF instead of Word/TextEdit files
If PDF prints fine, the issue might be with the Word/TextEdit printer settings
Try changing the print quality settings to standard/draft mode
Try these remaining steps and let me know what happens! 😊
I hope this helps.

Hi @cglenn7777,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
First, remove and re-add the printer. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners on your Mac. Select the HP Envy 7855, then click Remove (-) to delete it. Restart your Mac. Click Add Printer (+) and select the printer from the list. If it doesn’t appear, add it manually using the IP address.
If needed, reset the printing system by opening System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-clicking on the printer list, and choosing Reset Printing System. Re-add the printer after the reset.
Update printer drivers and macOS by visiting the HP Support Page and downloading the latest macOS drivers. Install any pending macOS updates by going to Apple Menu > System Settings > Software Update.
Check the default print driver by opening System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Click on the HP Envy 7855 and check if it's using the HP Smart driver instead of AirPrint. If it's set to AirPrint, remove the printer and re-add it using HP Smart or the downloaded driver.
If WiFi Direct is enabled, disable it in the printer’s control panel under Wireless Settings. Turn off Bluetooth to see if it affects the connection.
Run HP Smart Diagnostics by opening the HP Smart App, going to Printer Status, and checking for errors. If issues persist, run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP Support.
Let me know how it goes.

I will certainly try these steps again. The only differences are the turning off of wifi and bluetooth. But about the drivers: When I enter my model number on the HP website, the 7855 is not found. When I enter my serial number, the same, even though I registered the unit when I first bought it.
I do not know how to download (Mac OS) drivers from the HP site. When I search for print drivers from the home page, I am sent to a sales page for the HP Office Jet Pro 9110b, and even there, I see no link for print drivers.
If you could help me find the drivers, that would be the only other thing I have not tried before posting here.

I was also wondering about turning off WiFi. When I bought a new computer and upgraded HP Smart, the Only way to connect was via WiFi. The wired connection would not work; HP Smart only offered the WiFi method. But won't turning off WiFi disable any wireless connection?
I tried again to download a new driver, but the page requires my serial number, and that is not recognized.

Thank you for the response.
It's possible that the HP website isn't recognizing your printer model or serial number due to regional settings or database issues. To manually access the drivers:
Visit the HP Support Page: Navigate to the HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads.
Select macOS 15.3.1: Ensure you choose the correct macOS version to get compatible drivers.
Download and Install: Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the latest drivers.
If Wi-Fi setup poses challenges:
USB Connection: Temporarily connect your printer to your Mac using a USB cable. This direct connection can simplify the setup process.
HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart App from the Mac App Store. This application can assist in setting up and managing your printer.
Firmware Updates:
Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date
Access Printer Settings: On the printer's touchscreen, navigate to "Setup" > "Printer Maintenance" > "Update the Printer."
Check for Updates: If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

First, let me remind of some history. I upgraded my mac computer and tried to use the only printer at the time, this Envy 7855. I was advised to install a new version of HP Smart which directed me to download and install new software/firmware. I did so, to find that the new firmware would ONLY work via WiFi. I tested and was not able to make a cable connection. But the printer worked just fine, via Wifi.
I decided to buy a new printer, a Canon G6020, and connected that with cable and it worked, still works, fine. But the Canon does not print to the edges when using word (or notepad, etc.), only pictures or a word file saved as PDF. I decided to re-install the Envy 7855 in order to print those files that need very narrow margins. This is where the problems arose.
I have just followed your steps, and the result is the same; any file (word and notepad) prints as that strange line in my first post of this thread.
Details:The 7855 is listed in System Prefences>printers, under the IP address I needed to use for the computer to find it previously.
Downloaded firmware and gave permission to find local devices on my network. It said there are no devices that the firmware could use.
Downloaded the software (printer and scanner) and gave permission to find local devices on my network. Search could not find, so I entered the IP address, and it said unable to connect. I did not try installing a cable, but I did turn the printer on/off as suggested; same result.
That the printer worked when it was the only one tells me it is capable of working, but I have not idea what else to try.

The UK site did not recognize my serial number. System>printers does not have dialog about print driver (only version 10.4) or airplay option.
Removed printer. Added printer, using IP address (search did not find it).
The only difference from previous attempts is that I had the dialog auto-search for driver, but it did come up with the same one that was there as default.
Printer was successfully added, AND IT PRINTED LIKE IT SUPPOSED TO! So I didn't have to play with WiFi direct.
Thanks, issue solved (surprisingly).
