The printer screen said that I have a problem with my HP account. How do I fix that?

Hi @lv49ers

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP printer is showing a message like "There is a problem with your HP account", it usually means there's an issue with:

  • Your HP Smart account login (e.g. expired session or wrong credentials)
  • A problem with your Instant Ink subscription or printer activation
  • A network sync or firmware error between the printer and HP’s servers

Step 1: Check Internet Connection on Printer

Make sure your printer is:

Connected to Wi-Fi (check the Wi-Fi or wireless icon)

Not in offline or sleep mode

Not giving any other network error messages

If needed:

Go to the printer’s screen:
Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Test Wireless Connection

Step 2: Sign Out and Back Into HP Account (via HP Smart)

On a computer or phone:

Go to https://www.hpsmart.com

Log in with your HP account email

Go to My Printers > Select your printer

If your printer is listed with a warning, click it

Remove the printer if needed, then add it back

You may need to reclaim your printer or re-enter your claim code from the printer screen

On the printer itself (if touchscreen):

Tap HP ePrint / HP Account / Web Services

Look for an option to Sign Out of HP account

Then Sign In again using your email and password

Step 3: Restart and Check for Firmware Updates

Turn printer off and unplug for 30 seconds

Plug it back in and power it on

On the printer screen:
Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer

This can resolve sync issues with HP's servers.

Step 4: Fix Instant Ink or Account Status (if applicable)

If you're enrolled in HP Instant Ink, the printer needs to stay linked to your HP account.

To check status:

Go to https://account.hp.com

Go to My Services > Instant Ink

Look for any issues with payment, printer enrollment, or suspension

If your subscription is paused, expired, or canceled, the printer may show an error.

Let me know your printer model, and I can give step-by-step help for your specific screen and menu options.
