My LaserJet MFP M234 has been fine until today, when I had a paper jam and since clearing it, the printer appears to be connected but is giving messages saying there is a driver issue. I've downloaded updated drivers and have tried using the HP Smart app to troubleshoot but it still isn't working. Any ideas of what I can do? (driving me nuts, been trying for hours to fix it!)

@JoannaB60, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer driver errors!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your printer is holding a grudge after that paper jam—but don’t worry, we’ve got a few tricks to get it back on speaking terms with your computer!
Fully Remove & Reinstall Drivers
- Uninstall the printer from your computer:
- On Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Remove device.
- On Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Remove (-).
- Uninstall HP software:
- On Windows, go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and remove any HP-related software.
- On Mac, open the HP Uninstaller (found in HP Easy Start or Applications).
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall the latest drivers from HP's support page.
Check for Windows or Mac Updates
Make sure your operating system is fully updated, as outdated OS versions can cause driver conflicts.
Manually Add the Printer
Sometimes, the printer doesn’t reconnect properly after a jam. Try manually re-adding it:
- Go to Devices & Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac).
- Click Add a Printer and select your HP LaserJet.
- If asked for drivers, choose the ones you just installed.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, and plug it back in.
- If the issue persists, try a factory reset:
- On the printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
Try a Different Connection Method
If you’re using Wi-Fi, try connecting via USB and see if it works.
If none of these steps work, let me know what error messages you’re seeing—I’ll help troubleshoot further! 🚀
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks Zoey.... I'd started to try lots of things you suggested and then for some reason, the HP Smart app responded and the printer was 'accepted back' by my laptop. I'll keep your suggestions close by just in case it happens again! thanks JB
