Setting up new computer with OS Windows11.  installed our HP Color Laser Jet pro MFP M177fw.  Quite easy!!  Yay!!  Oops, the prints are extremely small and the page is distorted.  Must need a newer driver?  Any ideas?

Hi @Beginner22

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how disappointing it feels to see distorted, tiny prints after the excitement of setting up your Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw on Windows 11. You’ve already done the right thing by installing the printer, so let’s fine‑tune the driver and settings to bring your pages back to crisp, full‑size output.

Here are some detailed steps you can try:

Uninstall the current driver

  • On your Windows 11 computer, open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Locate any existing HP printer software for the M177fw and uninstall it.
  • Restart your computer afterward.

Download and install the full driver package

  • Visit HP’s official support page for your printer: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Drivers
  • Select Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Download the “Full Software and Drivers” package.
  • Run the installer and follow the on‑screen instructions to complete setup.

Check printer preferences

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer, then go to “Printer Settings.”
  • Under “Printing Preferences,” ensure the paper size is set to A4 or Letter (depending on your region) and scaling is set to 100%.
  • Disable any “Fit to Page” or “Reduce/Enlarge” options that might shrink the output.

Update firmware

  • In the HP App, go to “Advanced Settings.”
  • Check for firmware updates and install if available. This ensures compatibility with Windows 11.

Print a test page

  • From Windows Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer.
  • Choose “Manage” > “Print a test page.”
  • Confirm that the page prints at normal size and without distortion.

By refreshing the driver and adjusting the preferences, the printer should deliver clean, properly scaled pages again.

Would you like me to also outline how to adjust scaling directly from within applications like Word or PDF viewers, so you can double‑check before sending a print job?
