Since the most recent printer update, I have to repeatedly restart my computer to get the printer to print. It will spool the job, but won't print it until I restart my computer, then the print job starts printing. What's that about? Yes, I am using an iMac version 11.1. It's getting ridiculous that HP can't get up to speed as related to Apple products, iPhones, iPads, iMac, MacBooks being the preferred operating system for a good percentage of the population... 😞

Since the 11.1 update, (and the most recent HP printer update) my printer seems to be using generic software for my HP OJP 6978 (it's using 6970 software) and will spool the job but will not start to print until I restart my iMac. Then the job will print. That same thing occurs using AirPrint from my iphone... Until I restart my iMac, jobs just won't print.

I recommend you update the printer firmware from the below link and then download and install the printer driver and check whether the issue is resolved.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If that doesn't help, please also try reinstalling the printer software using HP Easy Start as following:
Follow below version of HP Easy Start, as soon as it launches open the top HP Easy Start menu and select Uninstall HP Software.
Follow the steps on screen and then click on Set Up New Device and follow the steps to reinstall the printer:

I install HP Easy Start and uninstalled HP software, and now the printer cannot be found. I've turned it off and back on; logged it out of the network and back in; made sure both the desktop and the printer are on the same network (2.4ghz) and now not even the HP app can find it. Why can't we just download the drivers?
