When I attempt to print I get a message saying "printer is in error state".  HP Diagnostic tool says all is OK and test prints work, so I know the printer is actually functioning.  But I cannot send a print instruction from my PC to my printer.  Help please.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

If your printer's status displays "Printer in error state," there may be a problem with the printer itself. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your PC by Wi-Fi or cable.

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

  • Click on the “Windows + X”, then go to “Control Panel” and then click on “Devices and printers”.
  • Then click on the “Printer”.
  • If the “Printer is offline”, then it shows “Offline Message” status. check the Printer is online it shows “Ready”.
  • check the HP Printer is offline, set it to online.
  • Then right-click on the printer and then choose “Use Printer Online”.
  • Then display should change to ready when the printer is set to online.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
