HP LaserJet Pro M15w Printer

My printer doesn't work with my new Mac M2 laptop. It does continue to work from my iPhone.

I transferred the settings from my old laptop, and the printer is recognized in the printer list. But when I send a job to the printer, I get the error: "You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose App Store... from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn't available in App Store..., contact the manufacturer of your printer."

I have HP Smart installed on the Mac. The printer is listed but it appears as "Offline." When I attempt to connect, it chugs for a while and then produces the error: "Select a different printer. ___ must be turned on to add it to HP Smart. Once the printer is turned on, tap OK to refresh, and then select the printer again."

The printer is on and connected to the network the whole time. When I send a job from my iPhone, it connects and prints as expected. So now I'm saving documents on my Mac, emailing them to myself, opening them on the iPhone, and printing from the iPhone. This madness needs to stop.

Hi @thewocky,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information.

Have you installed the software as requested?

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the MAC?

If you are using a USB cable, make sure the cable is directly connected between the MAC and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your MAC.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your MAC:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.

Click here to download the printer driver from the HP Support site and install it. Make sure you select the current version of your Mac OS.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
