Hello,

I bought a new laptop computer, a Lenovo IdeaPad S540. I am trying to install my printer/scanner/fax using a wireless connection, but so far, I failed many times.

- I installed the original driver software, but the driver cannot be installed. I uninstalled the software, downloaded the new software, but the result is the same, every time there is the following error message:

HPerrormessage.jpg

- I turned off the printer and the router for more than 10 sec, unplugged the power cables and started again, even with a fresh installation of the software. It still does not work.

- I tried to fix it using the HP Print and Scan Doctor, but the tool cannot detect the printer!

- The printer/scanner/fax is working fine on 2 other laptops and I can print from my mobile phone, too!

- I read on the HP support website, that this printer may not be compatible to Windows 10 - but the other laptops also use Windows 10. However, the new laptop uses version 1903, the other laptop uses version 1809.

- I also tried to add the printer using the Windows Settings/Devices/Printers and Scanners. It can actually detect the printer and it can be add to the list of printers, but the system cannot handle the print jobs, they keep hanging in the queue! In the list, the printer is marked "offline" and it cannot be used for printing or scanning.

- I connected the laptop and the printer by A-to-B USB cable. After that, the printer was marked as "installed" and a test page could be printed, but when returning to wireless mode no print job could be carried out.

I would appreciate your help with this issue, thank you very much in advance!

Hi @edwinGR

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. This seems like a compatibility issue with the Win OS and the printer driver. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Remove the USB cable and Install the printer driver compatible with Win 7 OS on your Win 10 PC

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

If the issue persists, install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
