Hello,
My problem is very simple and I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I have an Envy Inspire 7221 All-in-One Printer purchased from HP via Amazon Japan. During initial set up, I ch the printer language via the printer touch screen to English. The problem is, that every time I power off and then power on the printer, the language defaults back to Japanese. HP Smart on my PC is in English and everything works fine from that, it is just the on printer touch screen that keeps resetting back to Japanese.
Is anyone able to help solve this problem?
Thank you

Hi @GregBa,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you're experiencing with the language resetting on your HP ENVY Inspire 7221e printer could be due to a firmware or configuration problem. Here are some steps to try to resolve it:
1. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check for Updates via Printer:
- Go to the printer’s Settings menu on the touchscreen.
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Firmware Updates and check for available updates.
- Check for Updates via HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app on your PC.
- Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Check for Updates.
- Apply any updates, then restart the printer.
2. Perform a Semi-Full Reset
- A semi-full reset restores the printer to its factory settings, which can resolve persistent issues like language resetting.
- Caution: This will erase all custom settings (e.g., WiFi setup). Make sure to note any important details.
- To perform the reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord for about 2 minutes.
- While holding the printer’s Cancel and Color Copy buttons (or similar, depending on your model), reconnect the power cord and power it on.
- Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
3. Set Default Language from Embedded Web Server (EWS) Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to change the language settings:
- Find your printer’s IP address (displayed in the Network Settings or via HP Smart).
- Enter the IP address into a web browser on your PC.
- Log in as an administrator (default credentials are often in the printer manual).
- Go to the Settings > Language/Region menu and set the language to English.
- Save and apply changes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Gaya1239,
Thank you for the detailed instructions. I updated the firmware, which was old, reset the language to English, turned the printer off, then on again. Unfortunately it once again reverted back to English.
I also did a Semi-Full Reset and set the language from the EWS. In both cases, the same as before, the language change did not stick, and once the power was turned off and then on again, the language reverted back to Japanese.
Please let me know if you have any further ideas on how to fix this problem.
Thank you.
