I have an OfficeJet Pro 7740. When I first add the printer to my computer, all its features are available. However, after a modest amount of time, the next time I print, key features like color and duplex printing have disappeared. The only way I can solve this is to remove the printer than add it back. I am having to do that a lot, which is annoying.
How can I assure that my computer does not forget my printer's features?
This is a clean install of Windows 11, not an upgraded one. It is fully patched and up to date. It is clean.
Here's how the document properties look when the features are present. Note the option for duplexing:
This is what I see after Windows has forgotten about the printer's features. The duplexing features disappeared:

Hi. I came on here to ask the same question. I have an HP Envy laptop and the Officejet Pro 7740 printer. I started out with an Envy on Windows 10 and I would get a print dialogue box with full functionality - see attached pic. In Windows 11 I am getting the 2 versions you have posted. So I can no longer print double sided. This makes my printer useless....which is fairly devastating as I use it for work... When is the fully functional updated driver for Windows 11 coming out please HP?!

I have seen some cases where the installation of Windows 11 changes the installed driver from an HP driver that offers full function to a Microsoft IPP driver with drastically reduced function.
On your computer, go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select printer properties and then click on the about tab and post back what driver windows is using. If not a Microsoft driver, delete the printer and reinstall.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

The very helpful Ivan from HP Phone Support helped me solve this. It is a problem with the drivers.
First go to HP Smart and activate web services for the printer and connect to your wifi.
Note down the IP address for the printer.
Then go to control panel then select View Devices & Printers.
Click Add Printer.
Even if your printer seems to be listed in the list available within the dialogue box, click "Printer not listed" at the bottom of the box.
Select Add Printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next
In Device type select TCP/IP from the drop down menu
Make sure that Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use box is checked
Type in the IP address that you noted down earlier
Click Next and then you may have to wait 4-5 mins for a scan
You will be offered a list of lots of different manufacturers. Choose HP and then scroll down within the next menu to find the reference for your particular printer. Select.
This should install a new updated driver to your machine and if OK it should show as an image of the printer in the Devices menu in Control Panel.
Select it as the default printer.
Do some test pages in different programmes. The dialogue box should appear as the Windows 10 full functional screenshot in my post above.
Apparently quite a few people have a problem with PDFs so you may need to seek help if that is still a fault after sorting this part of the driver problem.
Good luck
