My HP printer menu has suddenly gone all French on me ! I've checked the settings online and on the printer panel and they both say it should be in English. What can I do ?

Hi @Dobbie-D,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer's language settings might have been inadvertently changed. Here’s how you can fix it.

Access the Printer's Menu:

  • On the printer's control panel, look for a button or icon that resembles a wrench or a settings gear. This is usually where you can find the language settings.

Change the Language Setting:

  • Navigate to the menu option related to settings or preferences. This is often labeled as "Configuration" or "Paramètres" in French.
  • Look for an option that says "Language" or "Langue" in French.
  • Select "English" or your preferred language from the list.

Restart the Printer:

  • After changing the language, restart your printer to ensure the new settings take effect.

Check Printer Software:

  • If the control panel method doesn’t work, you might need to use the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer to change the language settings. Open the app or software, navigate to printer settings, and look for language preferences.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. This will restore all settings to their defaults, including the language.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, Aiden4

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I've already tried re-setting the language preferences, both on the control panel and on the HPSmart app - time to try a Factory Reset, i think !

Hmm, I tried a factory reset and now the app won't recognise my cartridges, says they're not enrolled in Instant Ink, which they are, of course. I've tried all the usual tricks - disconnecting - reconnecting to the internet, removing and re-inserting the cartridges, but to no avail. The app still thinks my printer isn't connected to the internet, which, again, it is. Any ideas ?
