I have a Laser Jet Pro MFP M283 fdw printer that was purchased in the UK  but  is now in New Zealand as we moved. I recently purchased legit HP 206A toner cartridges  but they printer says they are incompatible. 207A are what was replaced. The shop I purchased from said 206A was what I needed, and web search also indicated 206a.

How do I change the printers region as the available list only includes European countries?

Hi @SJMu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is not accepting a legitimate HP toner cartridge, there could be a few possible reasons and troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Ensure it's the correct toner: Double-check that you have purchased the correct toner cartridge for your specific printer model. HP toner cartridges come in various types and configurations, so make sure you have the right one.
  • Remove and reinsert the toner cartridge: Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the printer's front door or toner access panel and carefully remove the toner cartridge. Inspect the cartridge and printer for any signs of damage or obstruction. Reinsert the toner cartridge firmly and ensure it clicks into place.
  • Clean the toner contacts: Sometimes, dirt or debris can accumulate on the metal contacts between the toner cartridge and the printer. Turn off the printer and unplug it. Gently wipe the contacts on both the toner cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with water. Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the toner cartridge.
  • Update printer firmware: Outdated printer firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Visit the HP Support website, search for your printer model, and check if there are any available firmware updates. Follow the instructions provided to update the printer's firmware.
  • Perform a printer reset: Resetting the printer to its default settings can sometimes resolve issues. Consult the printer's user manual or the HP website for specific instructions on how to perform a reset on your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
