Hi @Haysez,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When a printer like the HP Photosmart 6520 fails to connect to a new router, it may be due to differences in network settings or compatibility issues. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide.
Check Network Settings
- Ensure the Sky Max Hub broadcasts a 2.4GHz network. Many printers, including the Photosmart 6520, only support 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5GHz.
- If the Sky Max Hub uses a combined SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, try separating them in the router settings to explicitly connect the printer to the 2.4GHz network.
Restart Devices
- Power off the printer and the Sky Max Hub, wait 1-2 minutes, and power them back on.
- Try reconnecting the printer after the router has fully restarted.
Reconnect the Printer
- On the printer's control panel:
- Tap Wireless Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Select your network (SSID) and enter the WiFi password.
- Double-check the password for accuracy, as incorrect entries are a common issue.
Check for IP Conflicts
- Access the Sky Hub’s admin settings and ensure the printer’s IP address is not conflicting with another device.
- Consider assigning a static IP to the printer.
Disable Router Security Features Temporarily
- Features like MAC filtering or Access Control might block new devices. Disable these temporarily in the Sky Hub settings to test the connection.
Update Printer Firmware
- If possible, connect the printer to another network or use a USB connection to update its firmware. Outdated firmware may cause compatibility issues with newer routers.

Advanced Router Settings
- Ensure the WPA2 encryption mode is enabled on the Sky Max Hub (compatible with the Photosmart 6520).
- Check that DHCP is enabled to assign an IP to the printer automatically.
Reset Network Settings on the Printer
- On the Photosmart 6520, reset the network settings:
- Go to Setup → Tools → Restore Network Defaults.
- After resetting, run the Wireless Setup Wizard again.
Manually Configure Printer Network Settings
- If automatic connection fails, manually enter the network name (SSID) and password:
- Access the printer’s network settings menu.
- Input the SSID and password manually.
Test Connection
- Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer’s control panel to diagnose issues:
- Go to Setup → Tools → Print Network Configuration Page.
- Review the results for errors or failed connection attempts.
Alternative Connection Method
- Connect the printer via WiFi Direct if your devices support it. This bypasses the Sky Hub entirely.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
