Hello @Deep112, and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're having trouble installing your HP printer on Ubuntu LTS. Let's walk through the steps to get your printer up and running.
HP provides a dedicated open-source driver package called HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) that supports most HP printers on Linux distributions including Ubuntu.
Check if HPLIP is already installed
Open a terminal and run:
hp-check -r
If this command fails, proceed to install HPLIP manually.
Download and Install HPLIP
Visit the official HPLIP download page:
HP Linux Imaging and Printing | hp's Developer Portal
- Select your Ubuntu version.
- Download the .run installer file.
- Open Terminal and run:
cd ~/Downloads
chmod +x hplip-.run
./hplip-.run
Replace <version> with the actual file name you downloaded.
During installation, choose "Yes" when prompted to install missing dependencies.
Connect and Configure Your Printer
Once HPLIP is installed:
- Connect your printer via USB or ensure it's on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Run the HP Device Manager:
hp-setup
Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and configure your printer.
Test Printing
Try printing a test page from your printer settings or using:
lpstat -p
Troubleshooting Tips
- If your printer is not detected, ensure it's powered on and properly connected.
- For Wi-Fi printers, verify network connectivity and IP address.
