Hi @Tina831

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That’s got to be confusing—especially when the demo prints in color but your actual jobs don’t. Let’s walk through a few steps to help your OfficeJet Pro 6978 start printing in full color from your new computer.

🛠️ Steps to Fix Color Printing Issues

1. Check Printer Preferences

  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 → Printing Preferences.
  • Look for a setting called Color Options or Print in Grayscale.
  • Make sure “Color” is selected and “Grayscale” is turned off.

2. Try Printing from a Different App

  • Open a color document in another app (like Word or Adobe Reader).
  • Print a test page to see if the issue is app-specific.

3. Update Printer Driver

4. Run a Print Quality Diagnostic

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • This will help confirm if the color cartridges are functioning properly.

5. Check Ink Levels

  • Use the printer’s display or HP Smart app to confirm that all cartridges have sufficient ink.
  • If any are low or empty, replace them—even if the demo page prints okay.

6. Clean the Printhead

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle and try printing again.

Let me know how far you get with these steps, and I’ll help you dig deeper if needed. You’re doing everything right—let’s get those colors flowing again! 🎨🖨
