Laserjet 281
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Brand new printer, LaserJet 281.  WIndows 7, 64 bit, all updates applied. Office 2010.  When using Word and Publisher pictures are not printing correctly, they look fine in the document and in print preview, but when printed thy are bigger and cropped. I have seen this problem mentioned in another post with a different printer.  Drivers have been updated. It does print correctly  if I convert the document to PDF.  My former HP printer worked fine, this is a new problem with a new printer.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Please try updating Microsoft Office or uninstalling and reinstalling it. If that doesn't work:

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

If the issue still persists, try to update the Printer's firmware: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Let me know if this helps.

Hi.

I have done all that you asked and the problem prevails.  Office and the printer software have been reinstalled and updated, but I had the current updates on them all already.  There is no firmware update available for this printer. It is new, maybe 2 months old.  These documents print correctly from my Hp Lasertjet Pro 400. I had to get a new printer or a maintenance kit for my old printer and decided to get a scanner/copier printer. I am regretting that decision.

Converting to PDF to print is time consuming and not acceptable as PDFs will put a 1/4" border around that document and that is not working well at all. I make a lot of signs and flyers in Publisher and I need them to print as designed.

The graphics are being resized to a larger size than I have them and then printed in the same size graphics place holder box so the graphic is partially deleted.  But it is not all graphics, only some, and I can't figure out why some work and some do not. All I know is that all of these printed fine on my old printer.

Hi. I disabled the fax confirmation but it didn't solve my problem. I used supply computer support for schools and usually these problems are printer driver related. I was surprised that a new driver didn't solve my problem.  Here is a picture of the graphic as printed and one as seen in print preview. You can see where it makes the graphic larger and then cuts it off.  Any more ideas?

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count or tray size.

To restore the printer to the factory-default settings, follow these steps.

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Scroll to and select the Service menu.

3. Scroll to and select Restore Defaults, and then touch OK. The printer automatically restarts.

Setup the printer and try to print.

Keep me posted.

Have a great day!

Cheers:)
