Hi @Penfold11,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If the printer only shows the QR code for installing the HP app after the reset and does not move past that screen, the setup process is incomplete, and the printer is still waiting to finish the initial configuration.
Step 1: Power Reset the Printer
- Keep the printer powered ON.
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet > Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors temporarily).
- Turn the printer back ON and check if it moves past the QR code screen.
Step 2: Complete Setup Through the HP App
The QR code screen is normal after a factory reset and is designed to complete setup through the HP app.
- Install or update the latest version of the HP app: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site. Open the HP app on your phone or computer.
- Make sure:
- The printer and device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network,
- Bluetooth is enabled on the phone/tablet during setup.
- In the HP app: Select Add Printer > Follow the on-screen setup prompts completely until setup finishes.
Step 3: Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode
If the HP app cannot detect the printer: For printers without a touchscreen:
- Press and hold the Wireless button until the wireless light begins blinking.
For touchscreen models: Go to:
- Setup → Network Setup → Restore Network Settings
Then reopen the HP app and retry setup.
Step 4: Check for HP Account or HP+ Setup Issues
If the printer still stays on the QR/setup screen:
- Sign in to your HP account in the HP app,
- Ensure setup is completed fully,
- Check whether the app shows:
- “Finish Setup”
- “Setup Incomplete”
- Or account-related messages.
Some HP+ and Instant Ink-enabled printers will remain in setup mode until registration/setup completes successfully.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
