I have tried all the reboots, reinstalls etc. as advised by the HP support team. My printer still shows as offline even though the blue light is on solid. I have to restart the printer each time. It has been suggested that the printer should be within 10 feet of the router. This is not practical for me and I don't see why this should be the case. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance. Tom.

Advice that includes moving the printer and router closer to each other is likely intended to alleviate problems with obstacles that prevent a decent signal or a weak, outdated, old, or poorly placed router.

"Too far apart" is a thing -- ten feet is pretty close for a healthy and properly configured network.  Fifty feet, on the other hand, is far enough away that you need to make sure obstacles are minimized and the router is robust, properly placed, and configured properly.

Moving the devices closer will not prevent issues or help resolve router or wireless configuration problems, limitations (some printers only support one band / frequency), or network type (mesh).

In general, assigning a printer its own manual / static IP address can help stabilize a wireless connection that is not already plagued with other issues (distance, obstacles, router problems).

Windows?  Changing the connection type to TCP/IP might help.

Wi-Fi Direct

IF you do not need Internet / Web Services (for example, for Instant Ink, HP+, or Cloud)

and

If your printer supports the option (most do so)

Consider / Try

Connect your printer and your device using Wi-Fi Direct.

Wi-Fi Direct is a no-router wireless connection between your device and your printer.

Most printer user guides includes a section that explains Wi-Fi Direct.
