After installing fiber optic Wi-Fi and even using printer for a few days, it suddenly stopped working. The message: printer offline. I've reconnected wireless half a dozen time, tried to install new software that HP says I don't have (it fails) and nothing works. Please help

Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate your time and effort.
What happened after manually assigning the IP address.
Is the issue fixed?
Cheers.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP ENVY 5540 Printer. I understand that you are getting printer offline issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.
Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,
Run latest Print scan doctor to fix this issue.
Click on ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe to download and run PSDR.
If that does not fix, follow the below steps.
Set the default printer and unpause printing.
Reset the printer and check the connection status.
Update the printer firmware.
Add a second printer device to Windows.
Add the printer using HP Printer Assistant.
Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.
Let me know how it works.
Cheers.

My printer showed up as "offline." The software would not download. The solution is nothing that the HP scan and print doctor did. I ended up manually inputting the IP address. Ridiculously complicated, and I have no idea why.

The printer seems to be working after manually entering the IP address. And it should continue to work until it stops working again for reasons that will be unclear and will take several more hours to figure out, without help from HP scan doctor, which isn't quite sophisticated enough to unravel many of the problems I've run into.
