My HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e printer can only read image files from my flash drive—it doesn’t recognize any other file types. How can I fix this issue?

Hi @KG165,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e is working as designed. USB printing and scanning from a flash drive only supports image file formats (like JPEG, PNG, TIFF). It does not recognize document formats such as PDF or DOCX when accessed directly from the printer’s USB port. This is a limitation of the printer firmware, not a fault.

Why this happens

  • HP printers with a USB print feature are optimized for photos and simple image files.
  • Document formats require rendering and fonts, which the printer cannot process without a PC or HP Smart app.

Option 1: Print PDFs via HP App

Option 2: Convert Documents to Images

  • If you must use the flash drive, convert your PDF or DOCX to JPEG/PNG before saving to USB.

Option 3: Use PC for Full Features

  • Connect the printer to your PC via Wi-Fi or USB cable.
  • Print any file type using the standard print dialog.
